In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well. If you like, you can also share some of your own lessons in life.

A Hurtful Mistake, I Called Someone By The Wrong Name

Yesterday, a 25 ish health club employee came over to greet me and I called him Raphael. In a soft voice he said, "my name is Chris." I know his name yet he does look very much like Raphael but that is never an acceptable mistake for it is very hurtful to another.

To avoid this mistake, I just needed to take a good look at him, something I didn't do. I apologized immediately, knowing the words of the late cosmetics giant Mary Kay who said, "Every single person you meet has a sign around their neck - make me feel important." He smiled and accepted my apology but I will make it a point to acknowledge him by name each time I see him in the health club and I will take enough of an interest to help make him feel special, to the extent I have that power.
