In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Christmas, 2013

There were 10 of us, and what a lovely gathering it was. Uncle Gene, our family patriarch was there as was his beautiful wife Aunt Eleanor.

But what I most recall was:

1) Sitting at a corner of the dinner table speaking with Uncle Gene and Kyle. They have so many interesting stories to share.

2) Kyle's and Diane's boys Keoni, 13 and Ikaika, 1 as Ikaika ran around our home or was carried around by Kyle or Diane. His big brother Keoni was always present to keep a protective and loving eye on him.

3) And then there was a very special pair of gifts.

Photographed by our friend and Kevin's father in law, Ben Haney, were two sizable framed photos, the first was of our sons, our daughters in law and our six grandchildren. The second was of our six grandchildren. Anne and I were both moved by these photos, magnificent gifts.

We have been looking at those photos ever since and we will continue to enjoy those photos thankful to have them.

4) For me, it was a time to relax and savor the holidays and the joy of such wonderful company and a memorable pair of gifts.
