In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Kazan Family Party, 2/16/14

Anne and I hosted a wonderful party at Lucille's in Torrance, for 17 guests that included our sons Kyle and his family: Diane, 13 year old Keoni and 1 year old Ikaika; Kevin and his family: Melody, 8 year old Brody and 6 year old Gannon; and Clayton and his family: Maria, 8 year old Cameron and 5 year old Carina.

Our other honored guests were Anne's mother Mary, my sister Lorrie and cousin Terri. But two guests of honor were not there:

Uncle Gene and Aunt Eleanor.

We all looked forward to having them and they had planned to attend, but at age 86 (87 on March 23rd), two days before the party, Uncle Gene had serious heart and kidney problems and was taken to the hospital by paramedics.

As I write this on 2/19/14 he is in a managed care facility being treated for these serious medical conditions.

But in the tradition of Uncle Gene, who always orders too much food so that his guests will have plenty to take home and thereby live the party for another day or two, we too ordered too much food and were pleased to see our guests take with them what they wanted.

All of the children played and behaved beautifully, with everyone but Ikaika hanging out with their hero and leader, Keoni.

In all it was lots of good food, camaraderie and laughs, but at its core, we all missed Uncle Gene and Aunt Eleanor.
