Uncle Gene passed away on February 27, and today he would have been 87 years of age. Aunt El, Kenny, Cathy and their daughter Lindsay are going tonight to Lawry's, one of Uncle Gene's favorite restaurants to celebrate his birthday.
On Thursday (3/20), I thought of Uncle Gene with joy and was ready to call him, thinking we hadn't spoken in some time. Then reality hit home. This whole thought process lasted about one second, but it reminded me how used to speaking to him I am.
To me, he was "The voice of reason," and a pleasure to speak with.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
