In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Ikaika's 1st Haircut, 5/3/14

Ikaika, Anne's and my 16 month old grandson had his 1st haircut yesterday in a grand ceremony of cheering and picture taking.

In attendance were his parents Kyle and Diane, his big brother Keoni, age 13, his other grandparents, Ben and Dolores and Anne and me.

Diane sat in the barber chair and Ikaika sat in her lap as the barber Monica gently clipped his golden locks and repeatedly handed those clippings to Anne who collected them and put them in a plastic bag Keoni gave her.

Ikaika was good natured about his haircut, often smiling and he was curious and observant. The key to his happiness was sitting on his mother's lap, seeing Keoni nearby and having Kyle joke with him.

A good time was had by everyone on the day little Ikaika had his 1st haircut, a rite of passage from babyhood for a small boy.
