This was a special time for Anne's and my grandson Keoni, and 319 of his classmates as they were each awarded their Jr. High School diplomas from Miraleste Intermediate School in Palos Verdes.
The ceremony began at 4:30 pm on a warm and sunny day and after a series of speeches, one by one their names were called.
Keoni, stylish in his olive green, silver sheen suit proudly stepped forward when his name was called, as we, his family and friends cheered for him.
Meanwhile his tiny 16 month old brother Ikaika, dressed in an orange shirt, orange, blue and green plaid tie and khaki slacks ran every which direction on the track alongside the graduation with his dad Kyle following him, and me nearby.
That night at Tony's on the Pier in Redondo Beach a dinner party was hosted by Keoni's parents, Kyle and Diane in his honor.
Two days later, Keoni turned 14 years of age, and I heard that he and 50 or 60 of his fellow classmates and joined by teachers and staff left for a trip to Washington, DC and Philadelphia.
That night prior to Keoni leaving on his trip, Kyle and Diane took him to a birthday dinner at Lawry's in Beverly Hills one of Keoni's favorite restaurants.
It was a busy time for Keoni but I believe he will remember this time fondly for the rest of his life.
I'm thankful for Keoni's joy and wish every child his age could experience such happiness and such support from family and friends.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
