In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

On Being A Doctor, by Clayton Kazan

Dear Reader, Anne's and my son Clayton, a prominent doctor wrote this beautiful message to other doctors on 4/1/16

To all of my fellow physicians, thank you for what you do. Most people take for granted all of the years of study and sacrifice that it took for us to have the privilege of sharing that knowledge with our patients.  While TV dramas glamorize what we do, and a select few doctors cash in, the rest of us know that being a real doctor is about sleepless nights, giving up precious time with our families to care for patients, and always hoping that we made the right decisions.  It's not an easy life, but I would not trade my profession for anything, and if I had it to do over again, even with all of the frustrations of practicing 21st-century medicine, I would not hesitate for a second. Happy Doctor's Day!
