As we do each year, Anne and I flew to Montana, to greet our son Kevin and his wife Melody, and their two sons, Brody who turned 20 and Gannon, 17.
But this time we also met Brody's live-in lady friend Hannah, who is pregnant with their baby Norman, who is due in October.
As always, we stayed at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. We were greeted by Kevin and Melody at the airport, who after we checked in at The Lodge, drove us to their beautiful Eureka home, far up in the mountains.
There we enjoyed their home and their company, and Gannon's as well, as we feasted on the many goodies Melody had prepared for us, including her marvelous home baked chocolate cupcakes.
Afterward, they drove us back to The Lodge, where we soon had a relaxing dinner, before retiring for the night in our lake view room.
In the morning, everyone joined us for breakfast at The Lodge and it gave us a chance to relax together and to start to know Hannah, 21.
Right after breakfast, we took a lovely pontoon boat out for two hours, as we explored White Fish Lake and all of its surroundings, such as the expensive homes and extensive forests. All under clear blue and sunny skies, with a temperature in the low 70's.
We then went for lunch alongside the swimming pool and jacuzzi, next to the lake.
A little later, we convened in our room, shared stories and then went downstairs to the restaurant for Brody's birthday dinner. There we sang, "Happy Birthday," and Brody was served Huckleberry Ice Cream with a candle on top.
And as we have done for many years with each grandchild, I presented to Brody a 1/10 ounce U.S. mint gold coin. Current value is about $400.
The next day, Monday, everyone went back to work, but as always Kevin joined us to talk and to take us to the airport.
Of course it is always hard to say goodbye, and at one point tears trickled down Anne's eyes as we repeatedly hugged Kevin. We then winged our way back to L.A., thankful for the marvelous time we had just had.
With Love To All - Dick
