In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Gannon's 6th Birthday Party, 11/30/13

What a joyful and heartfelt occasion as Anne's and my little grandson Gannon celebrated his 6th birthday in his parents' backyard on a beautiful sunny day.

In addition to his big brother Brody, age 8, there were kids galore running all over the place, jumping in the jumper and playing on the swing set, while also eating pizza, fresh popped popcorn and devouring pink cotton candy.

Everywhere there were shouts of glee, including from the biggest kid of all, Brody's and Gannon's other grandfather Ben Haney, who is known as Poppa to them.

Poppa has a huge heart and his involvement with the kids and their parents makes a party a particularly joyous and memorable occasion.

But there was even more to the party.

The multi-colored piñata packed with candy was exciting to the kids who wacked it repeatedly with a variety of items until the candy spilled out, and was divided among the kids. There was so much candy, it was like Halloween on a very good night for these children.

Singing Happy Birthday and cutting the cake followed. The birthday cake was vanilla with vanilla icing and was surrounded by chocolate or vanilla cupcakes all of which had white icing.

Gannon's first six years passed so quickly, it's hard to believe our little kindergartner is as old as he is. But as with Brody and all the other little kids at the party, each and every one was beautiful, a gift to us from a new generation.
