In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

The Marriage Of Debbie And Stacy, 12/21/13

On this beautiful sunny Saturday morning, on board a party boat that cruised the Los Angeles Harbor, our niece Debbie and her partner of 21 years, Stacy got married. There were about 45 of us there to celebrate in a wedding officiated by Debbie's dad, Ed Houston.

As Ed conducted the ceremony he read the lovely words he had prepared. But as he looked at this beautiful couple standing before him, his eyes welled up in tears and in response so did tears well up in many of our eyes. It was all deeply touching.

I had the honor of giving the toast, entitled "Memories," sharing a memory each for Debbie and Stacy and speaking of how each person present was now sharing in a new and happy memory.

When asked afterward what most stood out in her mind about the wedding, Debbie's grandmother, 91 year old Mary Houston replied, "happiness."

"Happiness" really captured it, for it was a joyous occasion and everyone celebrated this very special time. It will long ring in our hearts, as we think of the love this beautiful couple feels for each other and the love they expressed for each of us.

Speaking personally, I love both of these ladies and I am grateful that each plays such an important role in my life. At this moment, just to think of their wedding makes my heart glow.
