In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Ikaika's First Birthday, 12/18/13

Today our grandson, baby Ikaika turned one year old. How fast that year passed.

Both sets of grandparents and great-grandmother Mary joined Ikaika's parents and his 13 year old brother Keoni to celebrate, along with his Uncle Clayton, Aunt Maria and their children, 8 year old Cameron and 5 year old Carina.

There was a large birthday cake in which Keoni blew out the candles as we all sang Happy Birthday and a smaller version of the same cake served to Ikaika. Ikaika gripped his cake in his hands and merrily ate it, while also tossing pieces in every direction.

After several minutes, he was so covered in cake and vanilla frosting, it was necessary for him to be washed and to be redressed in a fresh new outfit.

But Ikaika came back and merrily rejoined the party, happy to revel in such attention, as everyone played with him.

Ikaika doesn't know that he is now one year old but from his response, he does know that he had a very good time at his birthday party.
