Nearly every Saturday night, my wife Anne and I host a dinner at Chicago for Ribs. Our regulars are Fay Ward, age 99 and Anne's mother, Mary Houston, age 91.
But because of health issues among the older ladies it had been several weeks since what we term "The Four Musketeers" were together.
But last night we all came together, and as Uncle Gene termed it after listening to my description, "There was joy all-around."
Not only did the older ladies have a wonderful time, but so did Anne and I, and the Chicago for Ribs staff, who welcomed and hugged the older ladies and helped each of them with their walkers and in and out of the car, and the booth.
When we get together on Saturday nights, the food and service are excellent, but there is also a great sense of camaraderie, as the older ladies hold court, sharing their stories and opinions and having some laughs.
It truly is a time of joy, a time when hearts are touched and some of life's greater meaning is attained, as these dinners bring out the best in each of us, including the restaurant staff and some of the other customers around us.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
