In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

A Visit From Cameron And Carina, 2/2/14

On Sunday, Anne's and my grandchildren Cameron, age 8 and Carina, age 5 arrived early in the morning at our home. As with each early morning visit, the kids love donuts and hot chocolate from Mayer's Bakery, and Carina likes to go with me to select everything.

She's tiny but the displays are glass and she can select whatever donuts she feels everyone would want, as I buy a dozen donuts and other sweet odds and ends to send home with the children.

At the Von's market next door to Mayer's, Carina and I also bought chocolate milk and two forms of lemonade, which meant we had a lot of goodies that kids love.

After we returned and had breakfast, Cameron and I played soccer in our backyard and he also swung on one of the swings.

As a special surprise, I had recorded the movie classic, "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) which we watched together. But late in the movie, the kids got bored with the movie and wanted to see a different movie with Daffy Duck, which we began.

Carina also made a drawing, which I saved, and then it was time to take them home. As with each of our grandchildren, it is such a joy to have them and it is hard to say goodbye, even as it feels so good to make such happy memories.

Today I learned from Anne that Cameron had just read Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs' autobiography, which given how young Cameron is would seem surprising.

But knowing Cameron, it wasn't surprising at all.
