In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

A San Francisco Weekend, 4/4/14 - 4/6/14

It was a wonderful sunny San Francisco weekend in which Anne and I were honored to attend the beautiful wedding of Joseph Phan, our friend and brother of Maria our daughter in law, to Dominika Pietryga, a warm and lovely young lady whose family came from Poland to attend.

The wedding was held at St. Ignacius Church a grand, ornate facility in the European tradition on The University of San Francisco campus. Our grandson Cameron, age 8 1/2 was dressed in a tuxedo and served as ring bearer, while his little sister Carina, age 6 was an adorable flower girl.

Martin and Dominika were clearly very much in love and the families and friends in attendance were very much in love with them.

I spoke with Dominika's family and a young man helped to translate as I wanted to reach out to them knowing that most of them were in a foreign land and culture.

Of course I also mingled with Maria's family in whom we are close. But it was as well a time to enjoy Tu-Ann and her son Josh, also related to Maria, who I didn't recall seeing since our son Clayton and Maria were married in Maui, June 16th, 2001 when Josh was just 7 years old. He is a young man of 20 now.

I also had the pleasure of speaking with Tua and his wife Lu. Tua and Martin have been close friends since childhood. Tua and Lu are college teachers, he in math and she in physics and they have a cute 3 year old son, whose photos they shared.

Aside from the wedding, Anne and I visited Ghirardelli Square where we loaded up on chocolate goodies for our grandchildren and Fisherman's Wharf where we loaded up on sour dough French bread for ourselves.

In the Ghirardelli store, we met a charming young college age man, Markyle who was very helpful to us and on our walk we spoke with so many interesting people. To me, the people are always the most important part of any journey, and to be among them was highly rewarding.

We stayed at The Grand Hyatt San Francisco and the gentleman who checked us in assigned us a 27th floor room (2720) where the view of the city and the bay were spectacular. It was very thoughtful of him and I thanked him.

Directly below us was Union Square and on Sunday morning while Anne relaxed and then packed our suitcase, I walked the Square in the warmth of the sun, once again greeting so many interesting people.

Our United Air flights were delightful. The flight to San Francisco included a dynamic Croation woman who lives in Oakland and about every three weeks commutes to Los Angeles, to work for a video instructor at UCLA. The rest of the time she works for this woman from her Oakland home. Both ladies love film making.

This Croation lady loves to travel the world and was going to leave the next day for Belize to go skin diving.

The only dark cloud on her horizon is that she is about to turn 40 and wants to have a child, but she has no special man in her life. She came to America because she was involved with a man, but that didn't work out, and they are now just friends.

Anne and I wished her well, and she was once again her boyant self as we said goodbye.

Going to San Francisco was such a happy way for Anne and me to spend our weekend, one with many joyous memories.
