In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

They're All My Sons

Much of the world is captivated by The World Cup football championship. As I write this, Belgium is playing the U.S. and Anne has the game on television.

Many people want to talk about The World Cup matches and never before have I seen such strong local interest. The support for the U.S. team to triumph seems to be everywhere I go.

The games are on television sets in bars and restaurants and other venues and people cluster together and cheer, particularly when the U.S. is playing.

As we see on television people in nation after nation feel that way about their national teams to the point of fanaticism, which could easily lead to rioting should results not go their way.

In individual matches the crowds are very loud.

Yet the outcome will soon be forgotten by most people, however emotional they are right now, as life goes on for each of them.

But to me, all the players are my sons, all the teams mine and I wish them all well. I hope theses games lead to a triumph of spirit, of goodwill to all. And may that be what is recalled when anyone looks back on the 2014 World Cup.
