On Monday (10/8/12) our son Kevin came to our home to install a new water filter and he brought his little 4 year old son Gannon with him.
Gannon's big brother, 7 year old Brody and their mother Melody were at a birthday party for Brody's friend Dominic and Gannon wanted to play with me in our backyard. And what a joy it was as he slid down the slides, swung on the swings and played in the clubhouse as he looked the world over using the clubhouse spyglass.
He and I also kicked and passed back and forth five different balls, with Gannon's favorite being a purple and white ball so large, it was about the size of a beach ball. Meanwhile, all this activity made him thirsty, a thirst he quenched by drinking two cups of chocolate milk.
Being the wonderful conversationalist he is, Gannon explained how Brody doesn't care for chocolate milk but drinks his milk white. And as a conversational Gannon likes to give people nicknames and he coined his dad, "Nut Boy" and "Drawer Man," the latter name coming after Kevin asked Gannon not to open our drawers.
"I play with a big kid at school," kindergartner Gannon had earlier proclaimed. "A 1st grader," he had added in earnest, proud to hang out with a kid that big.
When it came time to leave, Gannon became captivated by the Halloween decorations Anne had placed along the front exterior of our home. What most interested him were the two ghosts hanging from the lights on either side of our front door, as he stared at their scary faces and tugged at the white cloth of one of them.
Gannon, who stands just slightly higher than my waist, then jumped into his dad's red truck and buckled himself into a small child protective seat as he said goodbye to us. What a lot of fun it was being with him and with Kevin, a special time indeed.
