In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

"Papa, Can We Go Get Donuts & Dames?"

During the Thanksgiving celebration (11/22/12) at Kevin's and Melody's home, Melody's dad and my friend Ben told me a cute story. Because Ben is a very early riser, and our grandsons Brody 7 and Gannon, who just turned 5 also get up early, Ben takes them to the donut shop when it first opens so they can have a great selection of hot, fresh donuts.

Because the cute little guys are "chick magnets" at any hour, Ben has taught them to refer to "donuts & dames," when speaking of the donut shop. So early in the morning they will call-out to Ben, "Papa, can we go get donuts & dames?"

Not only does Ben take them to the donut shop, but he takes them to the nearby Redondo Beach Pier for ice cream and to find out what fish the fishermen are catching, as the waves roll in with a roar below the pier. And he takes them to the park where they can run and play and swing on the swing sets and slide down the slides.

In all, it's a kid's paradise and a ton of fun for Papa as well.
