Because our son Clayton and daughter-in-law Maria were unable to participate in Thanksgiving at Anne's and my home, they hosted a delayed one at their home three days later. Attendees aside from their beautiful children Cameron 7 and Carina 4 were Anne's brother Ed Houston and sister-in-law Gwen, Anne's mother Mary and Anne and me.
Everyone but me dined on beef brisket, while I had the pleasure of vegetarian stew Clayton prepared for me. Dessert was two flavors of Haagen Dazs ice cream and Clayton's homemade chocolate malt chip cookies.
I had not eaten cookies in many years, but these cookies smelled so good, their scent wafting through the kitchen and the dining room, with Clayton's encouragement I wound up eating about five of them. Absolutely delicious, perhaps the best cookie I have ever eaten.
But my concern was what Gwen would think, as she like me takes exercise and diet seriously. When she left the dining room, I ate most of my cookies, but I must say with a laugh, it turned out she was aware of each cookie I ate, and through her, I know the number was about five of them. It was worth it.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
