For the last several years, nearly every Saturday night Anne and I have hosted dinners, almost always at Chicago for Ribs. We choose that restaurant because I as a vegetarian can have the vegetarian burgers I love while everyone else can have what they like.
The food and service are excellent and we and the ownership and staff have long gotten to know each other and it makes for a very cheery atmosphere. Our regular attendees are Anne's mother Mary, age 90 and our friend Fay Ward, age 98. Both older ladies live on their own, in their own homes, and are sharp as can be.
We used to also be joined by Fay's husband Ed, but he passed away nearly four years ago at the age of 96. They had been married for over 73 years. Occasionally others join us, usually our grandchildren Cameron 8 and Carina 5.
I treasure these dinners, and like everything else in life know that they will someday end. The key is to enjoy them now while we have them and enjoy them we all do.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
