On Friday Evening (4/12/13) at the invitation of our son Clayton and daughter in law Maria, with joy we celebrated our grandson Cameron's 8th birthday at The Counter, a very nice hamburger place of Cameron's choosing.
We were joined by Cameron's adorable little sister Carina, 5 years old and by Anne's mother Mary and everyone had a good time. My most memorable impression was of Cameron, still little and cute as can be, as he came over and joined Anne and me as dinner was finishing.
I looked at him as he is today and it melted me.
But we also talked about some of the good times we had in the past, such as when he was 3 and 4 years old and was "Captain Jack Sparrow," and I was his First Mate, as we sailed the seven seas from Anne's and my Redondo condo by the ocean.
Cameron could also remember back to when he was 3 years old and I would take him to the toy store so that he could have a gift of his choosing. I actually began taking him to the toy store when he was a toddler, probably at 15 to 18 months old. He recalled the four identical forklifts he chose, over four weeks, and how he named each of them.
Last night, I asked him how he knew which forklift went with each name and Cameron described slight differences each one had. Amazing, especially since he was just 2 or 3 years old when we bought them.
Later today Saturday, Clayton and Maria will host a big birthday party for Cameron at their home, which will include 19 children and 15 adults. But for Anne, Mary and me, the ideal setting was the celebration that took place last night where we could focus on Cameron and he on us.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
