In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Sunday With Brody And Gannon, 6/2/13

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday Anne and I spent at our son Kevin and daughter in law Melody's home, joining as well with Melody's mother Connie, Connie's sister Jeri and their mother Emma. But what was really memorable for me was playing with our grandchildren, Brody 7 and Gannon 5.

Together, we played hide and seek (both boys used the phrase, "he hided behind the Jeep") and they easily found me in every game in which I was not "it." Our laughter and joy permeated all of the hide and seek games.

As we often do, we played catch tossing the ball back and forth, and at times, we stopped the ball tossing so they could swing and slide on their play yard swing set.

Perhaps the biggest laughs came when we played a board game called "Battleship." Brody was losing the game and eventually yielded to temptation to try to sneak a peak at Gannon's alignment of his ships. As you can tell, he got caught and absorbed some joyful ribbing.

Then Gannon got that little playful grin that he so often does that tells everyone he is going to play a prank. And in his own hilarious way he sneaked a peak at Brody's ship alignment. Meanwhile, both boys were devouring donuts between chuckles and shout outs.

For me, playing with these little guys was like a return to my childhood, as like a Peter Pan, I set aside my adult inhibitions and seriousness and just played along with them. And what a wonderful time it was.
