In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

The Annual Cancer Support Group Gathering, 6/23/13

On a warm Sunday afternoon, hundreds of people gathered at The South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes to celebrate the work of The Cancer Support Group, a marvelous organization that provides immense support for people with cancer and for their families. There is no charge for this support because of these annual events and other fund raisers.

Our son Kyle and his wife Diane are actively involved with The Cancer Support Group and Kyle also serves on the board of directors. They are major donors.

In 2000, shortly after their baby Keoni was born, Diane was diagnosed with breast cancer, a battle she won in part with the support of The Cancer Support Group.

On this afternoon and evening there were numerous local vendors such as restaurants, located in tents offering their products free of charge as samples (the vendors donate money to set up in these tents), a silent auction for many valuable products and services, (those products and services also donated) and a band to entertain.

There were also featured speakers, of which Kyle was one. With his broad sense of humor, Kyle is always popular with the audience. But the key to the success of the event is the good time everyone has together, sharing stories and donating money for such a wonderful cause.
