One of the people closest to Anne and me and a regular guest to our Saturday night dinners is Fay Ward, a marvelous lady with a very sharp mind who until last night has lived independently on her own in her own home.
But as of last night, she will have home health care providers because she has begun the process of congestive heart failure. And she is now weak and in a wheel chair, although her mind remains sharp.
Yesterday when I was with Fay, she said she had a craving for donuts, so this morning Anne's and my 5 year old granddaughter Carina and I brought freshly baked donuts to her and engaged her in conversation.
Fay was so glad to see us and she gave Carina a little gift, a tiny teddy bear, which Carina immediately snuggled in her arms. It was a touching moment to witness.
It is my hope that Fay will regain some of her strength. But I also realize she is very late in her life cycle and I am thankful for each day Anne and I have with her.
She and her late husband Ed have been blessings in our lives.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
