Last Sunday night Clayton and Maria hosted three birthdays, Clayton's (9/14), Ed Houston's (9/21) and Anne's (9/28).
It was a wonderful gathering in which Clayton barbecued (including veggie burgers for me) and many of the guests used the swimming pool.
For me having an extensive in depth conversation with Stacy Hayworth was very special and I now feel that I know her and her children much better. Anne's and my beautiful niece Debbie Houston made an excellent choice in selecting this remarkable lady nearly 21 years ago.
Other great memories include seeing all of Anne's and my grandchildren playing together so nicely which touched my heart, and my heart was touched as well seeing our three sons joking among one another, with even a few good natured wisecracks at my expense.
My brother in law Ed has been swimming regularly as he trains for a mini-ironman in October and he looked to be getting in good shape. I felt good for him!
His wife, my sister in law Gwen has continued to be her new assertive self and I like that very much.
She and I are always the disciplined ones having a little dessert in her case and none in mine. But we agreed to have chocolate cake and we did, although as she pointed out, I had two pieces.
We both knew we would work that cake off the next day and I did and I believe she did as well.
But seeing our gorgeous daughters in law Diane, Melody and Maria is always a great pleasure for me, as it is to see Ed's and Anne's mother Mary, who at 91 lives alone in her own home and although legally blind continues to live a strong and independent life.
It was a memorable and joyous party and very kind of Clayton and Maria to host it.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
