While grocery shopping late this afternoon at Albertsons, there was an 85 ish woman shopping alongside me and I struck up a conversation with her. I saw the cane in her shopping cart and that she was using the shopping cart as a walker.
"I'm not steady on my feet," she said. And I assured her I would now join her in her shopping, which visibly pleased her. And step by step we covered much of the store as I helped her select various items and put them in her cart.
While she shopped we talked. She is from New York but has lived in Los Angeles for a long time. She owns a small home and has her physically limited son and an adult grandson living with her. She loves to cook for them and spoke very fondly of them.
It seemed as though everyone takes care of everyone else in that household.
When she finished shopping I helped her to the checkout stand and placed her groceries on the conveyor belt.
When the sale was complete and the groceries were bagged, I asked the store to provide someone to help her to her car and to load her groceries in the car and then I helped to select a young man, Casey to do so.
Glenda told me she had someone else to remove the groceries from the car when she got home.
It was a pleasure assisting this lovely lady in her grocery shopping and being a good listener for her entertaining stories. And she clearly appreciated the company and the assistance.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
