Back in the 1990's I was a weekend talk show host on KABC Talk Radio, then one of the most popular radio stations in the Los Angeles area. This station was populated with top talent and it was an exciting place to be.
The Internet was no factor, Talk Radio and letters to newspapers were where many people expressed themselves and what they had to say could be fascinating.
Recently my friend Nelson Davis, a successful businessman and TV broadcaster approached a time broker for KABC to explore us putting a show back on that station.
But what I learned stopped me in my tracks.
The station was a wreck. Yes, it still had the same call letters and occupied the same physical place, but the station I had known no longer existed. It had died yet like a zombie it was still going through the motions with a tiny fraction of the audience it once had.
To most of the Los Angeles area, it had lost its meaning either forgotten by most older people or never known by younger people, as everyone today has so many other places online to express themselves.
But if Talk Radio is what they want, powerhouse talker KFI is where they go.
I felt terrible for all the wonderful talent no longer at KABC. But with hindsight I'm sorry as well not to do a show with my friend Nelson.
But like the huge audience KABC used to attract, I've moved on.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
