In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

A Valuable Lesson

Christian R. Smith passed away on February 12, 2026 "after a courageous battle with cancer," read his Los Angeles Times obit (3/29/26). He was 78-years-of-age.

He was married to the love of his life, Pebbles Wadsworth. And Christian devoted his life to meaningful university endeavors, benefitting the schools and the many students he served.

However, that's not the reason I'm sharing a glimpse of his life with you. What truly matters is what he did that was extraordinary - something that offers valuable lessons for us.

Christian was renowned for offering a warm smile to everyone whose life he touched - a smile that quietly said, "Welcome."

And his obit reads, "Christian passed over to his next journey with his characteristic optimism, sensitivity, and curiosity, telling each person he touched, 'Thank you for sharing your life with me and trusting me. I am deeply humbled.'"

Dear Reader, can you imagine how different our lives would become if we welcomed everyone with such warmth and compassion. We would become a beacon of light and love - meeting a profound and universal longing.

With Love To All - Dick
