In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

The Zombie Prom

My 18-year-old granddaughter Carina is a high school senior, and devoted to performing on stage, as an actress, singer, dancer, and even a musician.

She just starred in the "Zombie Prom," a takeoff on "Grease," featuring a story line of songs and dances from the 1950's, and she was joined by a wonderful cast of young people. We loved seeing and listening to her, and I cheered for and enjoyed the performances of everyone.

Carina also just performed in her high school 2026 Pop Festival, with a marvelous orchestra and chorus, singing solo, a song from Les Misérables.

In all cases, I salute every dedicated teacher who has made this possible for each student.

Carina has starred in or had featured roles in various plays throughout high school and middle school and will shortly graduate and enroll in the performing arts at a major university, most likely in New York. Her talent is at a level where she has been offered partial scholarships, from schools recruiting her.

Ultimately, her desire is the Broadway stage.

Wherever she attends school, we as her family and friends will miss her, but share in our memories of her many joyful shows.

But looking back many years ago, her dances on stage with other little adorable 4-year-olds, in their tiny tutus will always live in my heart, for she will always be my little sweetie.

A Loving Grandfather - Dick
