These are the instructions from Dr. Todd Shrader (2/24/12):
1) No deep squats, no knee pivots
2) Advil or Aleve - If it doesn't hurt, not necessary
3) Walking - I would keep it flat. Avoid hills and stairs. If it hurts back off and give it a week and start again.
4) Stationary bike - Don't put (a lot of pressure/resistance on it) Bring the chair (seat) back so the knee is low. 60 degrees.
5) Rest is good. Pain will be your guide.
2/29/12
Patti Soderland called after speaking with Dr. Shrader about some questions I raised:
"Nothing you can do" "to protect or help repair or strengthen the meniscus" "but don't do squats." "Let pain be your guide" as to how much to walk on hills or steps. "Low level pain will be your norm." "Standing in one place or walking have any affect on it, no." "Let pain by your guide." "He said yes, you can swim."
In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
