In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.

Injured Knee, No Self Pity And Perhaps A Blessing

Yesterday, my doctor examined my sore right knee and said I may have a small tear in my meniscus. He said the only way to know is to have an MRI but he doesn't take MRI's unless surgery may be called for and the wonderful news is that in this case, he doesn't feel that it is.

In any case, there is never a basis to wallow in self-pity. Renowned ceramics artist Ken Price just died at age 77. For the last several years, he struggled with throat and tongue cancer and was restricted to a feeding tube consuming only liquids. He likely had great difficulty in speaking and the cancer treatments almost surely left him deathly ill at times and often sick to his stomach.

But he continued to create his ceramic art and even has a show opening at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this fall, a show that will next move to the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas and then to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-ken-price-20120225,0,3889631.story

Ken Price is but one of a long list of people I could list that suffered from real problems yet rolled on with life, making the most of their time. 50 year old Michael J. Fox was a Hollywood star when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 20 years ago and disclosed it to the public 13 years ago when the symptoms became apparent. This forced him to sharply cut back his acting career but instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself, he created and puts much of his time into a foundation to cure this horrible disease http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Michael_J._Fox_Foundation

In my case, this injury will for a time slow my walking and stationary bike riding but that offers a greater opportunity to enjoy the beauty that surrounds me and to look within as I write from the heart. This injury apparently was meant to happen and may be a blessing, especially if I help to make it that, as attitude can be the determining factor.
