Last night I took my 12 year old grandson Keoni to dinner. We went to Ruby's, a casual restaurant of his choosing and he had a hamburger, plain, no bun and French Fries, all washed down with a thick chocolate malt with a bright red cherry on top.
We talked about his interest in sports, professional sports teams and players and what he would like to become, if a wish was granted to him (he would like to become a professional basketball player).
I treasure these times and I hope he does too for it gives us a chance to bond and to share good times together. He is an interesting child, a bit soft-spoken and it is an enjoyable challenge to draw him out without allowing the strength of my personality to dominate our conversation.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
