On Sunday evening 1/13/13) Anne and I were very pleased to host a birthday celebration for our son Kevin (birthday 2/3/13) and our daughter in law Melody (birthday 1/9/13) at Lucille's BBQ in Torrance, CA.
Joining the celebration were their children Brody 7 and Gannon 5 and our son Clayton, our daughter in law Maria and their children Cameron 7 and Carina 4, along with my sister Lorrie and Anne's mother Mary. Kyle and his family were not present because they had just returned from Kiev with baby Ikaika and didn't want to expose the baby to possible illness from a busy restaurant.
Kevin and Clayton ordered the food with my encouragement to order too much so there would be plenty for them to take home. And Anne brought a special birthday cake she had baked by Mayer's Bakery.
The party was held in The Patio room, a private room Lucille's provided to us and a room I like in part because it is where small children can play freely without getting in the way of food servers and the other diners.
The evening was lots of fun with the children playing well together and sharing their happiness with the adults, as we were charmed by their being so cute and by their laughter. But the nicest part of the evening for me was having time with my sons and that they had time to be with each other.
This reminded me of how it was in our family for so many years as our children were growing up. But playing with grandchildren also brings Anne and me great joy, as it does as well being with our daughters in law.
And I treasure the time with Mary and with Lorrie. As I've grown older (I'm now 67) I've learned to more fully appreciate the company of others and to strive to bring happiness into their lives. This duel birthday celebration brought them and me happiness and to me yet again as with a big smile I relive that wonderful evening in writing up this summary.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
