Last Sunday, Anne and I babysat our 4 year old granddaughter Carina, and at one point while this tiny little girl was sitting on my lap, I said "I'm going to eat you up," and just as I started to tickle her tummy and make nun num eating sounds, she looked at me and replied, "I am too pretty to eat."
I laughed out loud and then agreed not to eat her up.
This was all part of a day in which we took Carina to the Sea's candy store to pick-up molasses chips for our son Kevin, whose birthday today (2/3/13) is and of course we bought candy as well for Kevin and Melody's children, Brody, age 7 and Gannon, age 5 as well as for Carina's big brother, Cameron, age 7, to be given to him later.
As I write this I wish we had bought candy for everyone and not just for Kevin and the kids.
We then went to the Target toy section and bought a toy each for Carina, Cameron, Brody and Gannon, and a book for Kevin.
Our next stop was a real joy, as we went to Kevin and Melody's home and joined their family, including Melody's dad, and our friend Ben Haney. As it was Super Bowl Sunday, Ben was looking forward to watching the game later that day, but for all of us, Ben included, it was a time of celebrating Kevin's birthday, and being together.
We then went home with Carina, and watched the movie, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked until it was time for Cameron's basketball game. This game was a lot of fun as we watched 7 year olds cavort on the basketball court.
Afterward, Cameron was thrilled to receive his present and his candy and then we said goodbye to Cameron and Carina, and to their parents, Clayton and Maria.
It was a wonderful and memorable day, filled with happiness.

In this Journal, I will attempt to strip away my protective veneer to view and communicate honestly what the truth is as I perceive it. My intent is to grow, for without an honest evaluation of the truth, how else can one fully absorb life's more difficult lessons and benefit by them. If I do this in secret, then I am still hiding behind a protective veneer, so it is being published online. If you find this Journal, you are welcome to read it and hopefully grow from it as well.
